The purpose of Caleon is to tell empowering life stories.
A purpose-driven business
Caleon is a purpose-driven business. Our philosophy of business is that a raison d’être is not an entitlement achieved by simply existing as a business, it is something that needs to be nurtured and created.
We are driven by the positive impact we can have on the world, and we believe that there is a lot of impact that can be created via life stories. We do not claim to know all the answers of what this journey will bring, but we are committed to exploring and expanding the field of life stories. We wish to become knowledge experts and the go-to organization for all and everything related to life stories.
Why do we need to tell life stories?
Our vision is simple, but bold. Our vision is to tell empowering life stories of every human being in existence.
We believe that every person lives a unique life, and that every person has lived through experiences that we can learn from or be marveled and inspired by. Furthermore, life stories are sources of dignity, legacy, purpose and clarity.
There is a lot of value that can arise from life stories, and we are still exploring and researching what value that can be delivered to people. Thus far, we distinguish between individual and social value.
The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves
The individual value in the form of narrating your life revolves around the propositions of finding your own purpose, shaping your narrative identity and taking control over your life and psychology.
We strongly believe that life stories can facilitate progress on these parameters. The value here lies in improving your mental health so as to increase your general well-being in life. Who wouldn’t want that?
Stories are the connective tissue of humanity
The social value can both be in the creation and the consumption of life stories. In terms of creation, life stories are an opportunity to truly connect with fellow human beings, whether that is the family or a stranger.
Families want to preserve the stories of their genealogical heritage so that future generations can know and appreciate where they come from.
Also, not all of us are great storytellers, and by connecting storytellers with people who have interesting life stories, we can facilitate profound interpersonal connection.
A question you can ask yourself to understand the value of consuming life stories is: why do we read biographies?
While there is surely a subjective answer to that for everyone, we would like to take a stab at answering it. At Caleon, we believe that stories are much more than just a break from reality. We believe that storytelling is how people think, how people understand and make sense of the world. We believe that stories help us generate a coherent model of the world.
Stories can inspire us. We enjoy watching a biographical movie about someone who faces and overcomes great challenges. We enjoy the hero’s journey, and we are all on one of our own.
We appreciate life stories because we can understand the world better, we can be marveled, we can model our heroes, and learn from the tragedies. Stories are celebrations, and stories are sources of reflection. That is why we need life stories.
Big picture thinking
One more thing that inspires us at Caleon is the impact that our organization can have on society at large. We believe life stories enable us to understand each other better.
It is easy for people to look at each other and see the differences, and we are naturally inclined to form groups. It is much harder to dive into each other’s worlds to appreciate these differences respect every human being equally.
We believe that life stories can facilitate exactly this by creating compelling narratives that allow us to understand each other in an engaging manner. Life stories have the potential to break down barriers between cultures, across national borders, between social layers in societies, and to transcend political and philosophical views.
All in all, we believe that life stories can make the world a better place to be, and no matter what value you wish to focus on in the rationales that are outlined here, we believe life stories are worth telling – we believe that every person has a life story that deserves to be told.
